2 skeins of sock yarn
Set of 5 #2 (2.75 mm) double point needles
Recommended Yarn: Dyed Jems Sock Yarn
Note: Needles #1 1/2 can be used with the Men pattern for Ladies
CO 56 (64 ) sts
Work k3, p1 rib for 20 rows. (Approx 2 inches)
Row 1: *p1, k7*; repeat from
Row 2: *k1, p1, k5, p1; repeat from *
Row 3 : *k2, p1, k3, p1, k1; repeat from *
Row 4 : *k3, p1, k1, p1, k2; repeat from *
Row 5 : *k4, p1, k3; repeat from *
Row 6: as row 4
Row 7: as row 3
Row 8: as row 2
Continue in pattern until you have 6 – 8 inches from cast on edge.
Slip 1 Stitch from needle 4 to needle 3, knit in pattern remaining sts from needle 1 onto needle 4 (27 (31) stitches on needle 4) Ignore stitches on Needles 2 & 3 (For the 56 st sock you may need to rotate the stiches on the needles a few stitches to center the pattern on the front of the foot)
Row 1: p27 (31)
Row 2: Sl 1 knitwise, k1, *sl 1 purlwise, k1; repeat from * until 1 st remains, sl 1 knitwise
Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 13 (15) times
Last Row: Repeat Row 1 (27 (31) rows total in heel)
Row 1: *sl purlwise, K1; repeat from * 8 (9) more times, ssk, turn
Row 2: sl 1 purlwise, p9, p2tog, turn
Row 3: *sl 1 purlwise, k1; repeat from * 4 more times,ssk, turn
Continue last 2 rows until there are no more stitches to decrease. (11 sts left on needle)
Knit sts on needle 4.
Row 1: Pick up and knit 15 (17) sts from slipped stitches on left side of heel flap. M1 between needles 1 & 2 and add to needle 1. (16 (18) stitches on Needle 1) Knit across needles 2 & 3 in pattern. M1 between needle 3 and right heel flap and add to soon to be needle 4. Pick up and knit 15 (17) sts from slipped stitches on right side of heel flap. Knit 6 of stitches from needle 5 (old needle 4) onto new needle 4. Slip the rest of the stitches from needle 5 onto needle 1.
Row 2: Knit until 3 stitches are left on needle 1, k2tog, k1, knit across needle 2 & 3 in pattern, k1 on needle 4, ssk, knit the rest of stitches on needle 4.
Row 3: Knit stitches on Needle 1, Knit in pattern on Needles 2&3, Knit stitches on Needle 4
Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 29 (33) total stitches on Needles 1 & 4.
Row 1: Knit stitches on Needle 1, Knit in pattern on Needles 3 & 4, Knit stitches on Needle 4
Repeat row 1 until sock measures 2 inches less than the length of your foot.
For Rows 1,2,3,5,6,8,9,11,13,15 knit all stitches
For Rows 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16 Needle 1: knit until 3 stitches before end, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end of needle. Needle 3: Repeat Needle 1. Needle 4: Repeat Needle 2.
After Row 16 Continue the decreasing row until there are 18 stitches left. Knit stitches from needle 1 onto needle 4. Slip stitches from needle 2 onto needle 3. Graft remaining stitches together.
Holding the 2 needles parallel with wrong sides of fabric together, thread a blunt tapestry needle with yarn end and work as follows: Insert needle as if to purl into the first stitch on front piece. Insert needle as if to knit into the first stitch on the back piece. Then follow steps 1-4 as outlined below. 1) Insert it as if to knit through the first st on the front needle and let the st drop from the needle. 2) Insert the needle into the second st on the front needle as if to purl and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. 3) Insert the needle into the first st on the back needle as if to purl and let it drop from the needle, then 4) insert it as if to knit through the second st on the back needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. Repeat 1-4 until all sts are gone. When finished, adjust tension as necessary. Weave in ends.
